All materials are provided: Open studio time, tools, clay, die, shelf space, and firing. We cannot accommodate production potters.
Learn the art of Nerikomi with fabulous local artist and former clothing designer, Katie Thrash (Shady Clay).
This 6 week class is designed with beginners in mind, though some previous clay experience beforehand would be helpful. It’s also great for ceramic artists looking to dive into this pattern-based artform.
Over the course of 6 weeks, you will learn how to color clay, construct various pattern styles (like marbling and the Skinner Blend) into a block, and then hand build objects from your patterned clay block.
Each person will create 4 different shades of clay and have access to their choice of hump molds. Once the class is finished, we will fire your work and have it ready for you in 2-3 weeks.

Each 6 week class is designed to lead students through clay projects from start to finish.
Week 1 - Centering and wedging
Week 2 - Trimming and attaching handles
Week 3 - Ongoing projects
Week 4 - Last week for wet clay
Week 5 - Trimming and finishing
Week 6 - Glazing and pot luck :)

It’s important that students attend the first class. Classes missed after the first class can be made up during the current session in a couple of different ways: 1) You can ask your instructor during the next class to briefly get you up to speed after the day’s demo, or 2) If there’s a similar workshop running during the same session, you may sit in on a class, space allowing.
Please talk to your instructor to find the best option.

Wear comfy clothes you don’t mind getting dirty and close toed shoes. Tie back long hair, trim long fingernails, and bring a water bottle.
