FAQS

Make-up Classes

For 4 week sessions, we are unfortunately unable to offer make-ups for a missed class. For 6 week sessions, make-ups are not guaranteed, but we will do our best to accommodate. If you have to miss a class, please check the schedule - you may be able to attend a different comparable class during that given week, subject to space availability. Please show up a few minutes prior to the start of the class, in order to request participation in the make-up class and to meet the instructor. All students must attend the first class of the session they have signed up for.

Open Studio Hours

Open studio hours are for students to practice their new clay skills and work independently. Open studio hours at Speckle are Thursday-Saturday 10am-8pm, Sunday Noon-5pm.

Please sign in upon arriving. Check the schedule for available workspace. All clay must be cleaned off the floor and surfaces wiped down by the end of open studio. We rely on students and members to help keep our studio healthy for everyone.

Membership

You can join our membership program by applying here. Once we get in touch, we’ll have you come by the studio to sign up in person. Member sign up windows are Wednesdays 5-6pm; Sundays Noon-1pm. On that day, you’ll register and make the first payment for your member tier, sign up for a shelf, get key codes, and studio orientation. Space is limited.

Members have open studio access 7 days a week, daily until midnight.

Cancellation Policy

Refund or Credit (minus $20 processing fee) will be provided only if a request for refund is received at least TWO WEEKS (fourteen days) before the first day of a class.

  • Class cancellation requests are only accepted via email. Please contact hello@specklestudio.com with your original confirmation email attached.

  • No refunds or credits are provided after attending the 1st class.

  • Classes missed will not be credited for future classes.

  • One-Time class registrations require 72 hour notice for refund or credit. These requests also must be made by email.

Outside Firings

At this time we do not offer outside firings. We only fire work made in-house by current students and members.

How to prepare for classes

Dress for success! Wear comfy clothes you don’t mind getting dirty and closed toe shoes, tie back long hair, trim long finger nails, and bring a water bottle. Bringing a notebook is also super helpful!

Studio Etiquette

At Speckle, we treasure our studio time and ask that all phone calls be taken outside. Please be considerate and respectful of others while you are using the space. If you are unsure of pronouns, please ask. Please use headphones in the studio while listening to podcasts/music. Mop and clean all work areas. Sand your work outside. Be nice.

Please sign in upon arriving, and take note of the studio's physical board to check space availability before getting started.

What is included in class fees?

Each session (6 week or 4 week) includes in-class instruction, open studio access (for the duration of your session only), clay, tools, glaze, and firings. Student shelfs must be cleared end of night of last class.

Equipment Training

If you would like a training for a specific piece of equipment (slab roller or extruder) and are a current member or student, please inquire with your teacher or the tech person on duty. Members and students must undergo a training before using equiqtment.

Oversize work

Work exceeding 12’’ in any direction is considered oversize. These larger works take up more space in the kiln, and may incur an extra charge on a case by case basis - we will look at the amount of work for that month and factor in any larger works. Larger works take longer to dry, and longer to get into the kiln because of the amount of space that is taken up.

Class Structure

All classes are 9 to 10 students. Most sessions run on a schedule where the last class is a glazing party and potluck. All students have open studio access for the duration of class session.

Classes are comprised of project-based learning. Students will work on specific projects to gain valuable lessons in technique and execution of ideas. If students wish to pursue other projects/ideas teachers will support your process. We are here to help.
