4 weeks | Sundays | September 13-October 4 | 9a-11:30a
Ages 8-11
Instructor: Tori Lanterman
Let your kid get messy, creative, and hands on at Speckle Studio’s Kids Intro Wheel class! Designed for ages 8-11, this course introduces students to the magic of the pottery wheel while exploring all the ways clay can be used for storytelling, self-expression, and imaginative play.
Students will learn wheel basics—centering, pulling up walls, shaping forms, and trimming—while also experimenting with hand building techniques. Each class includes guided skill-building, creative prompts, and plenty of studio time to explore personal style. From funky cups and small bowls to creature-inspired sculptures, texture studies, and expressive surface design, they’ll bring all their ideas to life!
Kids will also learn about ceramic processes like drying, firing, and glazing. They’ll finish pieces with colorful underglazes and glazes that highlight their unique voice. Throughout the course, students build confidence, patience, and pride in making functional art they can actually use—and take home.

Level: Beginner and beyond
Ages 18+
Instructor: Matt Borruso
*NOTE: This is NOT a continuation of the first Drawing class. This is a standalone introductory class.
Drawing is the primary visual language and foundation for all visual representation. It is a process and a skill which demands a heightened sense of observation and a deep contemplative engagement with the world around us. In this brief class we will work to sharpen our sense of observation and endeavor to “see” more, recognizing underlying patterns and basic forms, as well as identifying the lights, shadows, and complex textures that give shape to our physical environment. These observations will be translated from eye to hand, and pencil to paper creating representations of a three-dimensional world onto a two dimensional surface.
All materials provided.
Artist Bio
Matt Borruso lives and works in San Francisco. He has had solo exhibitions at La Mofeta, Et al.etc., Cloaca Projects, Steven Wolf Fine Arts, and 2nd Floor Projects in San Francisco, and at Black Ball Projects in Brooklyn. He has participated in group exhibitions at Public Access, Anna Kustera, and Derek Eller, New York; Et al. etc., 1599fdt, and House of Seiko, San Francisco; Sister, Los Angeles; Celaya Brothers, Mexico City; and Exile Projects, Berlin. Since 2015 he has published under his imprint Visible Publications, and his books are in the library collections of the Museum of Modern Art, the Whitney Museum of American Art, the San Francisco Museum of Modern Art, and the International Center of Photography. Between 2006 and 2022 he taught at Stanford University, the San Francisco Art Institute, and the California College of the Arts. Experiment with collage and watercolor techniques in this fun project-centered workshop to create a botanical collage. Participants will be guided to draw inspiration from the natural world as well as international arts and crafts history to create plant inspired collages.
No drawing or art experience is necessary to get a great result with this technique which invites cutting and tracing. We’ll cover color mixing with watercolors, discuss how a limited color palette can achieve a unified result, best practices for clean gluing and what makes a strong design composition. All art making materials will be provided. Participants should feel confident handling an exacto blade or have the option to do the entire workshop with scissors. Any children under 14 will be required to sign a waiver to use an exacto blade.
Artist Bio: Suzy Kopf (she/her) is a San Francisco-based multidisciplinary artist who examines the paper ephemera of midcentury consumer culture to explore the enduring mythos of the American Dream through watercolor, collage, and mixed-media installation, maintaining a "no waste" practice built on secondhand materials and self-made botanical ink and paint. Formerly a professor at Johns Hopkins and MICA, she now works exclusively with adult learners while focusing on her own studio practice, and in 2023 returned to San Francisco after sixteen years on the East Coast, where she lives with her partner and two rescue dogs, Theodore Roosevelt and Penny Lane. She has exhibited across the U.S. and Canada, including at the Turchin Center, Delaware Contemporary, Spring/Break Art Fair, and the Austrian Embassy in Washington, D.C., holds degrees from Eugene Lang College, Parsons, and MICA, and is a 2026 Liana Paredes Fellow at the Hillwood Museum.
