Two Days | Saturday and Sunday | June 27-28 | 9am-4pm
Level: Next Steps
Ages 18+
Instructor: Anna Grace Nwosu
Note: This is not an intro workshop. To be successful in Next Steps, you need to be able to confidently center 2 lbs of clay and make a cylinder.
Class Description:
In this two-day workshop, students will focus on creating larger wheel-thrown forms including large bowls, tall bottles, and centerpiece vases. We will utilize techniques like spiral wedging, piecemeal centering, and coil throwing to achieve wider, taller, and proportionately pleasing forms.
Day 1 (Throwing Big & Wide): Students will first learn new techniques to wedging, centering, and throwing larger amounts of clay (5 lb +). We will utilize these new techniques to throw a large, shallow salad bowl. We will also begin practicing throwing taller, structurally sound cylinders in preparation for throwing bottles and vases on day 2.
Day 2 (Throwing Big & Tall): Students will then learn modified pulling and collaring techniques to throwing taller forms with consistent walls. We will begin throwing a narrow bottle to practice height, and then throw a larger, wider bellied vase. Finally, students will learn coil throwing, an effective and more controlled alternative to stacked forms. Students may prep a base piece the day before or throw a base on day 2 and force dry it via hairdryer/heat gun/torch.
Workshop fee covers 25lbs of bmix with grog, studio use, and bisque fire.
About the instructor
Anna Grace Nwosu is a ceramic artist working in San Francisco, California. Her vessels are shaped by ancient and modern ceramic traditions, recontextualized within the contemporary world. As functional as they are sculptural, each piece is created with the lived environment in mind. She has recently exhibited at Fog Fair, Col Gallery, San Francisco Art Fair, Glass Rice Gallery, and Re.riddle Gallery. She hosted her first solo exhibition, Return to Form, at Marrow Gallery in October 2025. She teaches intermediate and advanced wheel throwing classes throughout the Bay Area.

Join us for an extra special Paint & Sip night where you’ll paint your very own pet! Bernal-based artist Aaron Zube will guide you through transforming your furry companion’s best headshot into a painted portrait.
Since this workshop is about adapting your own image, the class size is much smaller. Aaron will prepare your image and painting grid ahead of time and you’ll receive more individual attention during the workshop.
In one class, Aaron will lead you step-by-step from blank panel to finished painting—no experience needed. You’ll learn approachable techniques for sketching your composition, building shape and shadow, blending color, and adding expressive details that bring your pet to life. BYOB.
After you register, send us a pic of your pet to events@specklestudio.com! Aaron will prep the image ahead of time so it’ll be ready for you to translate into paint.
For best results, send a photo that follows these guidelines:
1) Make sure it’s a relatively close up photo of your pet’s face/head (no whole animal body pics, unless it’s a bird or fish or something small).
2) The light should be from a single direction so there’s a distinct light side and shadow side (aka, no washed out photos).
